Whale watching (in season)
Hervey Bay really is the whale watching capital of Australia. The calm waters between Fraser Island and the mainland are the best place to get up close and personal with the whales who are just as interested in you as you are in them. Whale watching season in Hervey Bay runs from late May through to October.
Fraser Island
There is nothing quite like Fraser Island. From the beach that is both a highway and an airport to the majestic and ancient trees at Central Station Fraser Island will captivate you and call you back.
Lady Elliott Island
A short plane trip will take you to the southern edge of the Great Barrier Reef and to an ecological retreat that will allow you to snorkel and dive among turtles and manta rays that live in the waters around the island.
The Botanical Gardens
Walk through the tropical gardens and the Japanese Garden and experience the peace and tranquility that is at the heart of this beautiful area.
Something more adventurous?
If you really want to get an adrenaline rush then you can skydive over Hervey Bay and see the coastline from the air. There are also microlight flights that can take you up and down the coast and over Fraser Island too.
And there’s more
We have 17kms of paved walking and cycling track that will take you along the coast from Gatakers Bay to the Boat Harbour at Urangan with plenty of picnic spots along the way. Bike and motor scooter hire is available.
If you fish then this is a fisherman’s paradise with deep-water fishing charters, local fishing charters and plenty of great fishing spots along the beach.
You can hire a jetski and tear up the water or take one on a guided tour of Pelican Banks and Fraser Island.
There are sunset cruises and dolphin cruises, an aquarium and there’s a wonderful museum that will take you back to what life was like in Hervey Bay in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
And of course there are some great dining experiences and cafe culture in Hervey Bay too.
What are you waiting for? We have so much for you to see and do, so come up to Hervey Bay and experience the beauty of sub-tropical Queensland.
